In My Own Words
It’s taken a whole lifetime to bring Thrive Music Studio into being. As someone who’s been deeply involved in music as a student, a performer and a teacher for over 4 decades, I became disillusioned and frustrated with what I saw to be the narrow confines of traditional music education which seemed to be stuck in the 19th century.
Over the years, I’ve come to see that music is a powerful arena in which to nurture the parent-child relationship. Anyone who takes a look at my bookshelves will quickly see that my interests are wide-ranging. In choosing to redefine what music education can be, I’ve redirected my energies into learning diverse subjects that include developmental neuropsychology, leadership development, social and emotional intelligence, philosophy and anthropology to better understand and support the families at Thrive. I’ve also been trained in Conscious Discipline and trained with Dr Laura Markham to become a Peaceful Parenting Educator.
Cultivating these interests has led to the creation of Thrive’s Leadership Development Curriculum (LUMINA) and our Parent Empowerment Curriculum (including the Empowered Parenting Workshops series and Thrive Learns monthly book club).
It is deeply gratifying to see Thrive evolve into a one-of-a-kind oasis for families in Markham, Stouffville and beyond, fusing music, parent empowerment and student leadership development. Thrive is committed to supporting families who want to give their child the gift of music. I look forward to having you come on board.
